Holiday Weekends

3 day weekends can be brutal.  There, I've said it.  I have made a very conscious choice to keep this blog as a record of daily life for Eliza and Jackson -- and so I stay away from really exploring the more "challenging" aspects of parenthood.  There are times I skim the blog and think this is a really unfair representation of our family to anyone checking up on us who doesn't see us very often.  It looks so happy, so idyllic.  I just wanted to go on record saying there are tantrums, there are lost tempers, there are some really bad days -- we all have them.

I had a lot of anxiety about this upcoming 3 day weekend.  We didn't have a lot of plans and the kids have had a lot of change lately (the family coming and then going, traveling a bit, camp ending and getting ready for school to start for Jackson, activities and classes on hold, bottles officially gone - yes it took this long, potty training -- well, you get it).   And the good news is, we all came through it pretty unscathed.  There were a few ugly moments but for the most part, it was so much better than I thought it was going to be.  The kids got along, we found a lot of fun activities (even if the parents were exhausted for some of them), and we ended our last night in the car with a family rendition of "monkeys jumping on a bed."  Hey, day 3 and we are all still singing.  That's a good sign.
